Partner Work!

Today, my siblings and I decided to play a yoga game that I call "Build-a-Pose." However, instead of playing this independently, we decided to make it a partner activity.

The game goes like this: one person who isn't playing has to call out a random word or phrase. It can be any visual, like a piece of furniture or a fruit. Then the two partners have to work together and coordinate a pose inspired by that word or phrase.

"Grapes"

"Peeled Banana"

"Boat Under Bridge"

"Castle"

"Star"

Throughout this activity, I noticed that the hardest part for my siblings was thinking about what pose to do. Oftentimes, they had two different ideas and struggled with bringing them together. However, they gradually picked up on the characteristics of each item I called out and used that in their design. Sometimes, they ended creating a new pose that they really liked but didn't fit in with the word I called out. We then adapted by giving the pose a new name; for example, "apple" turned to "grapes" and "watermelon" turned to "castle". My siblings and I play this game a lot, but we still learn something new about working together each time.

Overall, this activity is a great way to practice teamwork during the lockdown. Although teamwork is generally emphasized between students in classrooms, hopefully this activity can also show how important teamwork is between family members!
