Another popular series is the Warrior (Virabhadrasana) series, with 3 asanas that help strengthen balance and focus. The origin of this series lies in mythology: Virabhadra was a commander of Lord Shiva's army and was instructed to destroy Daksha, a sage. These asanas depict the fight.
Warrior 1:
Separate the legs about hip width or wider, and turn the left foot outward horizontally while turning the right foot inward at a 45 degree angle. Turn to your left and bend the left knee while keeping the other leg straight. Raise the hands and join them up above the head.
Warrior 2:
From Warrior 1, turn the torso back to the center and move the arms to the side in a 180 degree angle, keeping them straight. The left leg should be bent.
Warrior 3:
From Warrior 2, turn the torso to the left and lift the right leg off the mat so that the body is balancing on the bent left leg. Bring the arms in front of the face and join the palms together. Try balancing the body and keeping the right leg as far off the mat as possible, progressing slowly and focusing on one point in the room to help with balance.
Switch sides and repeat the routine 3x on each side (6 rounds total).
